This Thing is So Far From Over

While the (tentative) news that the leak is reduced or stopped is (long overdue) good news, the legacy of the spill is just beginning. Currently, a 22-mile underwater plume is spreading into some of the most rich and productive waters in the Gulf of Mexico and is poised to enter the food chain. This means the you and I will be eating toxic oil-laden fish for years to come as there is virtually no way to clean this up. This truly is a disaster of epic proportions. [New York Times]

Thanks for Everything…

Thanks, BP! After all your lies, obfuscation and delays you have finally managed to stem the black tide after it has spilled only two to five times as much oil as the Exxon Valdez! Congratulations! You just earned the Congressional Medal of Worst Oil Company Ever. But what’s this? The spill “could resume”? Sounds like yet another case of “we have no idea what the hell we’re doing but we’re going to tell you things are OK so you won’t hate us”. You sly rogue, you! Fool me once… [New York Times]

“We’re telling the truth this time, really…”

Now why do I not find it credible that the “top kill seems to be working”? [New York Times]

The Video BP Doesn’t Want You To See

Contrary to what BP would have you believe, the oil doesn’t simply disappear after their “magical” (read: “toxic”) dispersants are applied to the oil. Instead, it creates highly lethal underwater plumes as shown in this video. [Good Morning America via Gizmodo]
