Bullsh*t of the Day

Chief executives from the world's largest oil companies this morning left one of the largest and steamiest piles of dog crap ever seen in front of a Congressional panel. Not an easy feat to accomplish after the recent Goldman testimony! Asked about how they could make such obtuse claims as "the BP spill is an aberration" and "our spill response plans are sound," one executive replied, "our egghead lawyers said we had to lie or else we'd get sued" before getting elbowed in the rib cage by said lawyer.

Most of the oil spill safety response plans are nearly identical if not verbatim copies of BP's ill informed plan. According to Senator Henry Waxman, Exxon-Mobil, Chveron, ConocoPhillips and Shell share the same response plan as BP. The reason? Nearly all the companies used the same outside contractor to come up with these "plans." Showing how often these plans are updated, two other major oil companies list the same number as BP for a long-dead expert. I think we all know how effective that plan has proved.
