Official Spill Estimate Sharply Increased

Now that credible scientists, including Energy Secretary Steven Chu, are gaining access to better leak data we are finally getting a more reliable estimate of leak. The current estimate is now that 35,000 to 60,000 barrels per day of oil are surging into the gulf, including the effect of cutting the riser pipe. BP, don't even try to tell us that the information you had didn't lead you to the same conclusion.

At this rate, BP could be fined up to $258 million dollar per day based on the $4,300 fine per barrel per day in the Clean Water Act. At this rate, it is easy to see how BP's potential liability could quickly escalate, which is even more reason why they should not pay the upcoming dividend and may even go bankrupt. I would not shed one tear if BP filed, in fact I would say good riddance as management surely would not survive the process.

Oh, one more thing: I Hate You, BP!
